Invest in Your Health with a Health Savings Account

Health Savings Accounts (HSA) plans offer a way for an individual to have more control over their medical expenses. The client must have a high deductible health insurance plan and then they can contribute before tax dollars to an HSA to be used for "approved" medical expenses. If this money is not used for medical expenses, then it can be withdrawn after a certain age "tax-free".

Are EMFs Wreaking Havoc on Your Health?

Are EMFs Wreaking Havoc on Your Health?

From www.stopagingnow.com. Posted by Josh Corn

It’s easy to forget that we are essentially “electrical beings.” That is to say, all of the biological functions that occur within the human body are regulated by electricity, from the beating of our heart to the functions of our brain to the metabolic reactions that occur within every one of our cells.

When you think about it this way, it only seems logical that our constant exposure to the electromagnetic fields (EMFs) emitted by the electrical devices that surround us would result in health consequences of one kind or another. Most of us are surrounded day and night by wi-fi signals, cell phones, cordless phones, computers and a myriad of other electrical devices — all of which emit EMFs.

According to Dr. Ann Louise Gittleman, author of Zapped: Why Your Cell Phone Shouldn’t Be Your Alarm Clock and 1,268 Other Ways to Outsmart the Hazards of Electronic Pollution, we’re exposed to 100 million times the level of electromagnetic radiation that our grandparents were.

As Dr. Gittleman explains in Zapped, research has shown that the human body is extremely sensitive to even the slightest radiation exposures, like that emitted by cell phones and cordless phones. The body picks up these artificial electrical frequencies and they become intertwined with its own natural frequencies, interfering with cellular communication and creating a biochemical stress response.

Last week, a breakthrough study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) confirmed what Dr. Gittleman and other experts have been saying about EMFs. Researchers at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) found that simply holding an activated cell phone next to your head for 50 minutes produces measurable changes in brain metabolism.

This study is significant because it proves that the human body is sensitive to even the low levels of electromagnetic radiation emitted by cell phones. Previous scientific studies have linked EMF exposure to:

* Chronic inflammation
* Aches and pains
* Cognitive problems
* Sleep disruptions
* Fatigue
* Depression
* Headaches
* Vision problems
* Nerve damage
* Cancer
* Heart problems

So what can we do to protect ourselves? Given that completely avoiding exposure to EMFs is probably not an option, this is a very important question.

In Zapped, Dr. Gittleman provides some practical guidelines for reducing your exposure to EMFs, in addition to some nutritional and lifestyle strategies that may help minimize the negative effects of EMFs on your health.

Here are some examples of her recommendations:

* Limit the length and number of call you make using your cell phone.
* Keep your cell phone as far away from your head as possible. Text, use speaker phone or use an air-tube headset whenever possible.
* Use old-fashioned corded telephones in your home, rather than cordless phones.
* Remove all or most electronic devices from your bedroom.
* Keep laptops off your lap.
* Consume superfoods and antioxidant supplements to help combat the free radicals created by EMF exposure.
* Use “grounding” technology to stabilize the body’s electrical rhythms and minimize the effects of EMF interference.

By employing these and other strategies, Dr. Gittleman claims to have achieved great improvements in her own health, as well as in the health of people she has helped.

Are you concerned about EMFs? And if so, what are you doing to protect yourself? Do you believe your health has been adversely affected by exposure to EMFs? Please leave a comment and share your thoughts and experiences.

Low Vitamin D May Affect Your Mood, Memory and More

Low Vitamin D May Affect Your Mood, Memory and More

Can getting adequate vitamin D prevent or reverse some mood and memory problems? The newest study, from the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center at Washington University in St. Louis, suggests it may. In a study of 80 older healthy adults, half the group had mild cognitive impairment and half did not. The study found that in both groups, people with low blood levels of vitamin D were more likely to be diagnosed with poor mood (mild depressive symptoms such as lack of interest or indecisiveness) than people with adequate blood levels. And Vitamin D deficiency was also linked to poor performance on two tests designed to measure thinking skills like memory, judgment and problem-solving. (Wilkins, CH et al: Am J Geriatr Psychiatry 2006; 14:1032-1040.)

More definitive research is needed, but for now, there are plenty of good reasons to make sure you’re getting enough vitamin D, such as stronger bones, reduced risk for falls, and protection against the development of colon, breast and prostate cancers. Some 25% to 54% of all adults over age 60 are low in vitamin D. Those who get less sun year round, like those in northern climates, are most likely to be deficient. Bundling up and using sunscreen also reduce your body’s ability to use the sun to make vitamin D.

Current research suggests that 500 IU of vitamin D daily may be enough throughout the year, but during winter, some may need 700 IU of D daily. If you’re concerned about not getting enough vitamin D, you can eat more fish and consume vitamin-D fortified foods, including milk. But supplements of vitamin D are the most reliable insurance, especially if you are not regularly exposed to sunlight.

Q & A with Dr. Cannell- Vitamin D and Magnesium

Dr John Cannell is head of the Vitamin D council. We are finding Vitamin D is necesary for all cells of the body as every cell has receptor sites for Vitamin D. I am constantly hounding my friends to take 5,000 IU's of Vitamin D daily, minimum. So, here is more info on Vit D.
