Are EMFs Wreaking Havoc on Your Health?
From www.stopagingnow.com. Posted by Josh Corn
It’s easy to forget that we are essentially “electrical beings.” That is to say, all of the biological functions that occur within the human body are regulated by electricity, from the beating of our heart to the functions of our brain to the metabolic reactions that occur within every one of our cells.
When you think about it this way, it only seems logical that our constant exposure to the electromagnetic fields (EMFs) emitted by the electrical devices that surround us would result in health consequences of one kind or another. Most of us are surrounded day and night by wi-fi signals, cell phones, cordless phones, computers and a myriad of other electrical devices — all of which emit EMFs.
According to Dr. Ann Louise Gittleman, author of Zapped: Why Your Cell Phone Shouldn’t Be Your Alarm Clock and 1,268 Other Ways to Outsmart the Hazards of Electronic Pollution, we’re exposed to 100 million times the level of electromagnetic radiation that our grandparents were.
As Dr. Gittleman explains in Zapped, research has shown that the human body is extremely sensitive to even the slightest radiation exposures, like that emitted by cell phones and cordless phones. The body picks up these artificial electrical frequencies and they become intertwined with its own natural frequencies, interfering with cellular communication and creating a biochemical stress response.
Last week, a breakthrough study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) confirmed what Dr. Gittleman and other experts have been saying about EMFs. Researchers at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) found that simply holding an activated cell phone next to your head for 50 minutes produces measurable changes in brain metabolism.
This study is significant because it proves that the human body is sensitive to even the low levels of electromagnetic radiation emitted by cell phones. Previous scientific studies have linked EMF exposure to:
* Chronic inflammation
* Aches and pains
* Cognitive problems
* Sleep disruptions
* Fatigue
* Depression
* Headaches
* Vision problems
* Nerve damage
* Cancer
* Heart problems
So what can we do to protect ourselves? Given that completely avoiding exposure to EMFs is probably not an option, this is a very important question.
In Zapped, Dr. Gittleman provides some practical guidelines for reducing your exposure to EMFs, in addition to some nutritional and lifestyle strategies that may help minimize the negative effects of EMFs on your health.
Here are some examples of her recommendations:
* Limit the length and number of call you make using your cell phone.
* Keep your cell phone as far away from your head as possible. Text, use speaker phone or use an air-tube headset whenever possible.
* Use old-fashioned corded telephones in your home, rather than cordless phones.
* Remove all or most electronic devices from your bedroom.
* Keep laptops off your lap.
* Consume superfoods and antioxidant supplements to help combat the free radicals created by EMF exposure.
* Use “grounding” technology to stabilize the body’s electrical rhythms and minimize the effects of EMF interference.
By employing these and other strategies, Dr. Gittleman claims to have achieved great improvements in her own health, as well as in the health of people she has helped.
Are you concerned about EMFs? And if so, what are you doing to protect yourself? Do you believe your health has been adversely affected by exposure to EMFs? Please leave a comment and share your thoughts and experiences.
